Rising star shining at FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2016

Wael Arakji (Al Riyadi - Lebanon)

Perhaps the most brightly shining rising star right now is none other than the man called “Lebanese Dragic,” Wael Arakji. At only 22 years of age, the 1.94m combo guard has risen fast to become one of al Riyadi’s main cogs. He opened the tournament with a 20-point performance against a solid Al Rayyan squad before following it up with 19 points on 8-of-11 field goal shooting in a win over Pauian. He then scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 6 assists in last night’s victory over India’s ONGC. With the old guard like Ali Mahmoud, Jean Abdelnour and Mo Ibrahim probably hanging their sneakers in the international game, the onus is on Arakji to carry the torch moving forward not just for Al Riyadi but for Lebanese basketball in general.
